Google Docs for Wedding Planning
I’m a big fan of using Google Docs, especially for collaborative projects. The author of this article on The Huffington Post suggests that wedding planning is a perfect place to use this tool:
For do-most-of-it-yourself brides, wedding planning means lists, lists and more lists, with some spreadsheets thrown in for good measure. There are also the long, endlessly pored-over documents of vows, readings, even toasts. Did I mention lists?
Enter Google Docs, the search company’s free, easy-to-use online document software. With templates for the spreadsheet-challenged and a slew of pretty Web tools, the service is like the perfect bridesmaid. She’s calm, collected and full of good ideas but not overly pushy, letting you steer the ship. She’s there when you need her.
So how can you use Google Docs to plan your wedding?
The author has a lot of ideas for how you can collaborate with your vendors, bridal party, and even family. She even used it to plan her wedding ceremony! While I recommend using an experienced wedding officiant on your big day, I can definitely envision using this to review a ceremony with clients!
In fact, I find Google Docs very useful when a client wants to review some or all aspects of the ceremony before their big day. Whether they want to only see their vows or the ceremony in its entirety, Google Docs can really help make the process a lot easier.
And the best part is that it’s free! Plus, if you already have a gmail account, you already have access to it!
Why not just use my computer’s word processor or spreadsheet program?
The idea with Google Docs is that you have the ability to allow certain people access to your documents – either as a reader or collaborator. So you no longer have to pass files back and forth, as they are located in “the cloud.” Plus, there is no danger of losing your documents due to a lost, stolen, or broken computer!
